WHAT IS A WASTE CLASS?
A Waste class is a categorization created by the Ministry of the Environment in conjunction with the Hazardous Information Network (HWIN). The purpose of the categorization is to identify wastes not only by their type (class) but also the important sub-classifications (primary characterization) of each waste, for example Ink is not just ink, there are flammable inks, corrosive inks, and toxic inks. Fixer for example is identified as a 264 Waste Class and a primary characterization of T - leachate toxic = 264T. Beyond that you will need to identify the physical state, specific gravity, Hazardous Waste Number (i.e. D011).
Understanding your waste chemicals in order to properly complete the process of adding a waste class to your generator can be complicated. Most information can be found by combining the resources of Regulation 247, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Handbook and the new Land Disposal Regulation (LDR) handbook. Additionally, you likely will be required to compete the Form 2B when adding your waste class. Or, if you are a current customer of ours you can simply complete $25 Add Waste Class and we can take care of it all on your behalf!
