 CHEMICAL QUESTIONS
WHAT DO YOU DO WITH YOUR CHEMICAL MANIFESTS?
Because Environmental Control Systems fills out your complicated manifest documents for you, the only thing you have to worry about is what you do with them when we leave. Although our drivers will be happy to help you when they hand you your copies if your looking for immediate answers you have come to the right place.
MANIFEST DISTRIBUTION
The following describes the distribution of all 6 pages of a Manifest based on our service to you, the generator with ECS serving as both the Carrier & Receiver Site.
- At the time of pick up our ECS Service Provider will prepare your Manifest Document and request your signature to confirm the waste type and quantity picked up.. He will leave with you Copy 1 & 2. You will retain Copy 2 for your files (kept for 2 years) and mail Copy 1 to the Environmental Authority in your region. This lets the MOE know that a specific amount of chemical has left your facility and is now the responsibility of the Carrier.
- When our truck arrives at ECS (receiver site) we will complete Section C (Receiver Information) of the remaining 4 pages of the Manifest Document to confirm the waste type and quantity. We will then mail Copy 3 to the MOE and Copy 6 to you the Generator to inform both parties that the same quantity and type was received safely. We will maintain Copy 4 (Carrier Copy) and Copy 5 (Receiver Copy) for our records.
MANIFEST STORAGE
Manifest copies must be kept for a period of 2 years and may be audited by the Ministry of the Environment. A copy of these manifests should be stored chronologically in a file by the generator, carrier and receiver. In reference to the generator, in some cases corporate offices may also want to keep a record of their individual locations at their Head Office. Something to remember – the generator is responsible for their own paper work; whether head office or individual locations. The generator is ultimately responsible for the waste that they produce and ship out until signed off by the receiver.
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW!
- Unknown chemical can NOT be disposed of or transported by law under the TDG Regulation.
All chemical names,
contaminants and concentrations be identified, labeled and manifested. Unknown chemical waste require proper handling, knowledge and labeling. The analysis necessary for identifying unknowns are expensive. Care must be taken, to maintain an accurate inventory of stored hazardous materials and hazardous wastes to ensure identification.
Complete and accurate identification of all chemical waste is very important to ensure safe and environmentally sound hazardous waste
management.

- Ensure EACH individual item is in an approved container; bottle, bag, jug, drum, tote, box, etc. is clearly labeled with the
chemical name, contaminants and concentrations if known as well as generator number and manifest number. Do not write common
names. List all components by their specific, non-abbreviated chemical names.

- Absolutely NO HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL is to be flushed down the drain.
